A cheque for £20,000 is presented to Cancer Research UK

The Loughborough and District Group recently held their Annual Meeting, at which a cheque for £20,000 was presented to Nicola Stapleton acting Regional Manager for the East of England.

The money was raised by various events during the year which included: The Graham Cook Memorial Sponsored Walk (£395.50), Coffee Morning and Cake Stall at Loughborough Baptist Church (£191.00), Quiz (£264.60), B&Q Collection (£388.24), Cake Stall on Loughborough Market (£220.00), Stall at Charities Fair (£155.00), Christmas Catalogue sales (£1063.46) and Buffet Dance (£910.55). To organise all these events required a lot of effort from dedicated people, so we would like to thank all the Friends who have worked so hard to ensure the success of all these events and to thank our supporters from in and around Loughborough.

In addition to our own fund-raising we were very fortunate to have outside support from various groups and individuals who had organised events for CRUK and passed the proceeds to us. They included the Wymeswold Carol Singers (£1430.37), Josh and friends who cycled from John O’Groats to Land’s End (£577.00), EP Racing (£502.00), Harlan Ltd (£475.00), Frank Foulds for the Irish Evening (£396.10), Steve Coles for his half-marathon (£168.50) and many other individual donations.

We thank the many people of Loughborough and its surrounding area for their generous donations and support. We also say "Thank You" for the money donated following bereavement, or as a legacy. Although these donations originate from sad events they enable Cancer Research UK to continue their vital research, offering hope for the future.

During the year 2006/7 Cancer Research UK nationally funded a record £315m of research which almost doubled the research funding since the charity was formed in 2002

Research is being funded in our area at Leicester, Derby and Peterborough.

Our Group

“The Friends” will continue to provide fundraising and to assist with organising events. Our small friendly group has members from Loughborough and the surrounding villages and we welcome new faces to help either on a regular basis or occasionally. Many hands make light work - so could you lend a hand? Why not become a "friend" and play your part in the battle against Cancer? If you would like to come to one of our events or help with planning events click on future attractions at the top of the page or contact us.
